WHEELCHAIR LIFT UPDATE

My lift is STILL not repaired. Pride Mobility, who bought the lift company which made my lift, refuses to sell a $40 receiver end of a long screw without selling the long screw. They want $800.00 for a 4 foot screw and receiver.

My genius mechanic and a genius McGyver type engineer are REALLY ANGRY about the price of these parts. My mechanic says that the part is the equivalent of the screw that operates garage doors.

Now I have to go to an industrial part store to speak with them about an equivalent part so my lift can be repaired. Thanks to Wells Fargo, I do not have the money to purchase the $800.00 part.

I think that wheelchair lift companies feel free to rip off the disabled because Medicare does not cover wheelchair lifts, so the companies charge whatever they want, knowing that most people are so desperate for their lifts to be fixed that they pay whatever the companies ask.

My lift does go up and down, but has to be pulled in and out of the car. This means that I can no longer take my heavy chair that fits into courtrooms, but have to use my light scooter which is 17 years old. (Thank you Medicare for insuring that wheelchairs are reliable.) This old chair cannot go anywhere where I do not have help as it has an intermittent electronics glitch.

Also, the lift does not go up and down if I park on a even slight slope, so I can injure myself getting to court on time. (I am unable to be late to court. Usually I arrive a half hour ahead of time, even though I know my case will be the last heard, because it will take a lot of court time.)
