WEDDINGS

If you love someone and are committed to live a life with this person, you should get married.

People in love do not care about the right to share in pensions and Social Security. They care about taking care of the person they love.

If you are NOT MARRIED to someone, YOU ARE LEGALLY NOT A MEMBER OF THAT PERSON'S FAMILY.

THIS MEANS that you do NOT have the right to visit this person in the hospital unless your lover is awake enough to say he/she wants to see you.

THIS MEANS that you do NOT have the right to claim your lover's body after he/she dies. His/her family can even bar you from attending the funeral.

NICE FAMILIES do not do this to their children's lovers. However, grief is a very strong emotion. Grief can sometimes manifest itself in irrational anger. Angry people can make vindictive decisions.

Some states have domestic partner laws which try to give some of these rights to unmarried people.
