The last time I spoke with him, he told me his boss had lots of construction work and things were getting better, so he was going fishing. He never came back home.
This is a man who would carry in my groceries, fix small things around the house, and water my trees and the apartment lawn. My other neighbor said, "He made us a family."
Dan is not important enough to have his death reported in the newspaper. But he was an important man none the less. He was one of those people who did not ask if you needed help, he just helped.
The world is a sadder place without him.
